Live Laugh Love Play Squash Tour 2012

How do you celebrate a liver transplant anniversary? By playing squash of course. A LOT of squash!

Deirdre Faul (Sandycove) has a few busy days ahead of her. To celebrate receiving a liver transplant nine years ago, and to promote the game of squash, she’s planning to personally hand-deliver donor cards to 36 squash clubs all over the country and to play a match while she’s there. All in 10 days!

You can follow her progress on her Facebook page.

Good luck Deirdre!

British Intercounty Championship 2012

23rd Mar 2012 (agillespie)
Leinster Ladies promoted to Division 1 in the British Intercounty Championship

The Leinster senior ladies squash team travelled to Pontefract recently to take part in the British Intercounty Championships in Division Two. The team of Olivia French, Claire O’Brien, Jenny Dillon, Ciara Moloney and Niamh Brennan competed against Yorkshire, Worcestershire and Surrey.

The competition started on Saturday morning with a match against Worcestershire. Leinster came out on top with a 3/2 win. Next up was Yorkshire where the ladies had a convincing 5/0 victory. The decider on Sunday was always going to be a demanding match, and with very little recovery time, it was a daunting task. The Surrey team had been very impressive throughout the competition but with a massive team effort, the Leinster girls pulled through 3/2 in a nail-biting finish.

This result means that the Leinster team has gained promotion and next year will compete in Division One of the British Intercounty Championships.

Carlow Open 2012

22nd Jan 2012 (agillespie)

Carlow Lawn Tennis Club hosted an amazing feast of Junior Squash on the 21 & 22 January 2012 with 101 junior entries ranging from age 7 to 18 years of age. The standard of squash at all levels was outstanding and there were many nail biting games and finals to be seen. It was great to see so many new players in the U/9 and U/11 and I hope they enjoyed their first tournament.

I would like to thank Carlow Lawn Tennis Club, James Mc Dermot and his committee for a great weekend. Many thanks to Ger Holohan, Enda Holohan, Bernie Tallon, Claire Doyle and also thanks to Fiona and Sheila who kept the bar open all day Saturday and Sunday with refreshments. Well done girls.

I would also like to thank the CY Gym for letting us use their squash courts for the U/9, U/11 and U/13.
