ADMINISTRATOR’S REPORT
Leinster Squash Leagues commenced early October last year. To begin with we were up a number of teams as Sporkslink, DCU and Carlow had entered teams. Unfortunately these three couldn’t commit and were forced to pull out at the last minute. We also lost Arklow, Guinness and Esb Sportco but hope to see their return next season. However, all in all we were still level with the previous year. Baldonnel played out of Ballyfermot following the loss of their courts.
Most League results are being entered through the Website and are then updated daily so each team can follow their Division’s progress by simply checking out the Website for Summary and Detailed Reports. The Leagues and Cups were very much a success this year and on April 22nd we had our Cup finals and presentation of prizes in Sutton LTC.
As most of you will have noticed the League fixtures and contact details were posted on the web early September. In order to achieve this we need all Clubs to enter their teams and give as much detail as early as possible. Entries must be received, by July 31st 2006 to avoid disappointment.
We would like to thank everyone who participated in all events and helped in the running of these tournaments for their dedication to the sport. Thanks also to the Squash Council who strive to keep Squash active and healthy in Leinster. We look forward to a welcome rest and a fresh new start next season.
Number of Clubs affiliated to Leinster Squash 17
Number of Men’s Teams 54
Number of Ladies Teams 19
LEAGUE COMPETITION
With the loss of five Clubs we were only down three teams in all. It was good to
see that we didn’t lose any ladies teams. Leinster Squash are looking at the
restructuring of the ladies league and may introduce a new system to improve their
leagues. We have asked all clubs to forward suggestions.
League Sponsorship is always a major priority and this season we were delighted to achieve almost full sponsorship. We were very grateful to all companies who kindly showed their support by sponsoring an individual Division and by the response they received from their advertising.
Many thanks to:
ASAP Couriers ( Ed Dunne ) Sponsors of Mens Premier
SARTORIUS ( Mrs Anne Clune ) Sponsors of Ladies Premier
STYL-OPTIK ( Arthur Moore ) Sponsors of Mens Div 1
LEXMARK ( Ray Byrne ) Sponsors of Ladies Div 1
MEPC Chartered Surveyors ( John McKay ) Sponsors of Mens Div 2
FEXCO ( Liam Delaney ) Sponsors of Mens Div 3
ALL FINANCIALS ( Greg Cooke ) Sponsors of Mens Div 4
LAVERY KIRBYGILMARTIN Solicitors ( Jim Flynn ) Sponsors of Mens Div 5
BYMAC BUILDERS ( Simon Byrne ) Sponsors of Mens Div 6
Should you need the services supplied by any of the above companies please do not hesitate to give them a call. Why look any further?
We would urge anyone who feels they could contribute by putting something back into the game that has given them so much enjoyment over the past number of years to consider becoming a sponsor.
We had a number of Divisions, once again, battling to the end for their titles. Thanks to all players who made this another great year. Thanks to captains for getting results in early. We must stress that it is vital that results are forwarded in full by 11 a.m. to meet with the Newspaper deadlines.

CUP COMPETITION
The Cup Competition returned to its old format of beginning after all league matches had been completed. This was more successful and there were no delays.
The Cup Finals took place in Sutton LTC on Saturday 22nd April. All went to plan as once again, the event was run very successfully by Marian Bermingham, Maria Blair, Gerry Delaney. Thanks to them and all involved. Special thanks to the referees, Brian McNally and Brian Williams, who have no hesitation in helping out time and time again. Sutton LTC is a fantastic venue for such an event and Leinster Squash would like to thank them for their fabulous facilities and warm welcome. The entertainment was provided by Donal Kirk and food by David Kinney of the Sandwich Deli. There was a great atmosphere throughout the day and presentation of League and Cup Prizes followed the finals. Thanks to Jackie McCreevey for buying the beautiful Newbridge prizes and to Bradshaw sports for the gear bags.

As we are nearing the end of another season, I am glad to be able to tell you that we successfully ran a course this season. We had six players in attendance and out of the six four passed the exam. We are delighted to get more qualified referees as it is such an important part of our competitions. All the tournament matches have to be refereed and without the usual suspects, Brian Williams, Brian McNally, Maria Blair, Len & Eddie Redmond, Jimmy Chawke, Patrick Madigan, Mary Grogan, Gerry Delaney, Hugh Fitzsimons, Mick Hennessy, Joe Ruddy, where would we be. At this point I would like to thank all the above. We would hope get more players to do future courses.
Marian Bermingham
We are proud to welcome the following new referees on board:
Mick Hennessy
Joe Ruddy
Brett Williams
Dennis O Connor
I would urge clubs to
encourage players to do the course in the future, as the list of referees is
getting shorter. By doing the course the player learns a lot more about the
game. So don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Sutton Lawn Tennis Club,
Eoin Ryan and Brian Williams held an evening for both juniors and seniors to
watch a refereeing video followed by question time. This proved to be very
successful and was attended by many members especially juniors ( 40 ). It was
both entertaining and enlightening and was enjoyed by all. I would suggest that
all clubs hold a similar event for their members. It will not only allow them
to update their knowledge on court but might encourage some to follow on to be
referees themselves. For further information contact Brian Williams 086
2524089.
Leinster Squash would like to thank Marian Birmingham and Brian Williams for organising and holding the courses and for arranging the referees for our tournaments.
The Irish Times Newspaper thanks to Malachy Logan and The Irish Independent thanks to David Courtney and his crew continue to print all results on a daily basis. We also have Vets results along with our Tournament results being entered on request. This is especially wonderful for the Juniors as it means so much to them.
Thanks to Shane Murray and James Proby in RTE for giving us space on Aertel. It is great to see the Sponsors names associated with their Divisions in both newspapers and on Aertel Results are updated daily on Networks 2, page 506/507. ( may vary )
Publicity and media coverage gives a special touch to the work put into all events by both players and organisers and hopefully the more publicity Squash gets the better chance of moving away from the “Minority Sport” title that it seems to have and into the same frame as the “Top Sports”. We seem to be getting closer to successfully becoming an Olympic Sport and it must be stressed that it is only by taking part in competitions and encouraging our Juniors to participate at all levels that we will keep Squash on the Map.
SENIOR CAPTAINS & SELECTORS
MENS CAPTAIN: CIARAN MC COY
Ciaran McCoy ( Mens Captain ) along with selectors David Cassidy and Nigel Peyton took on the task of providing us with our Mens ranking lists throughout the season. This entails compiling all the Mens Premier results on a weekly basis along with Ranking Tournament results for the purpose of keeping Leinster supplied with a constantly up to date Ranking List and selecting teams for forthcoming events.
LADIES’ CAPTAIN: EMMA TOOLAN
Emma Toolan together with Len Redmond and Rosie Barry provided the Ladies Ranking list. We thank Emma, Len and Rosie for their dedication and would be grateful if they could remain at the helm for the coming season.
We are delighted to have achieved almost full sponsorship for our Leinster League Teams this season. As you will have seen from the Website, Newspapers and Aertel, along with fixtures posted in your Clubs during the season, we managed to get very valued Sponsorship for nine of our Leinster League Divisions.
Our thanks go to:
Ed Dunne, ASAP COURIERS Sponsors of Mens Premier
Arthur Moore, STYL-OPTIK, Sponsors of Mens Division 1
John McKay, MEPC CHARTERED SURVEYORS Sponsors of Mens Division 2
Liam Delaney, FEXCO Group Marking, Sponsors of Mens Division 3
Greg Cooke, ALL FINANCIALS, Sponsors of Mens Division 4
Jim Flynn, LAVERY KIRBY GILMARTIN SOLICITORS, Sponsors of Mens Division 5
Simon Byrne, BYMAC Sponsors of Mens Division 6
Anne Mc Clure, SARTORIUS, Sponsors of Ladies Premier
Ray Byrne, LEXMARK Sponsored of Ladies Div 1
As you can see each season brings us more new sponsors. Leinster Squash would like to thank them for their support would hope to keep them on board for next year. Sponsors are needed for all events both senior and junior and their funds not only provide prizes but also to boost the profile of the tournament and therefore put squash out there for all to see. They are essential in any sport and are giving very valued aid.
If you are interested in joining the team of Sponsors or know someone who may be willing to help, please contact Leinster Squash LeinsterSquash@eircom.net / 8396299 or any member of the Council. If you would prefer to just make a donation and remain anonymous we would be more than willing to comply with your request.
MULDOWNEY FINANCIAL SERVICES sponsored our Leinster Squash Senior Closed Championships, this season. This Sponsorship was achieved by Eoin Ryan, once again and Sutton Lawn Tennis Club, who run this annual tournament on behalf of Leinster Squash. We are very grateful to Gary Donnelly, previously of First Active who encouraged his new partners to fulfil this request and put there LOGO at the helm. As usual the sponsors provided for a very eventful tournament and an entertaining evening, which was organised by Sutton LTC. Gary was at hand to present the prizes on the finals night and has acknowledged his delight in being a part of this competition.
Thanks also to PRINCE for their value sponsorship of the East of Ireland. Again, this Sponsorship was achieved by Eoin Ryan.
Thanks to Simon Byrne of BYMAC Developments, for sponsoring the Schools Squash with a very generous donation.
MC QUILLAN TOOLS sponsored Junior Squash, thanks to Brian Dolan and with their aid we were able to present wonderful crystal prizes at all junior events and Leinster juniors who travelled to Belfast to compete in the Interprovincials were supplied gear with McQuillan Tools logo.
Once again, Eoin Ryan and Sutton Lawn Tennis Club ran the Leinster Senior Closed Tournaments on behalf of Leinster Squash. This event is very popular and this year was no exception. 110 players battled throughout the week, with matches going on at all hours. It has proved to be a very special and social tournament and all involved seem to really enjoy it. Eoin with the help of the committee, Eamonn O’Reilly, Martin Maher, and many other members, who offered their services refereeing all week, did a brilliant job.
There were six individual events with players competing in Mens A, B, C & D and Ladies A, & B. The competition is run over a week to allow for all matches to be played and give players more flexibility with match times. They had larger women’s sections from past years but work must be done to convince the ladies to compete in these events. We have quite a substantial amount of women playing league and we need to encourage them to participate.
Eoin secured a new sponsor for the Tournament. MULDOWNEY FINANCIAL SERVICES agreed to give their support having recently been joined by Gary Donnelly (formerly of First Active, previous sponsors). We are delighted to welcome Muldowney Financial Services on board and hope they will be with us again next season. Declan Landy, a one-man band, entertained the crowds on the finals evening and a great night was had by all.
Thanks to Sutton Lawn Tennis Club for their fantastic Club facilities and friendly welcome. The results are as follows:
MENS A: John Abrahamse bt Dara O’Flynn
MENS B: John Dillon bt Fearghal Field
MENS C: Pat Burke bt Stephen Meredith
MENS D: Glen McGahern bt Darragh Fogarty
LADIES A: Emma Toolan bt Rosie Barry

THE LEINSTER SENIOR OPEN
The Leinster Senior Open was held the weekend of the 14th – 16th October 2005 in Fitzwilliam LTC. We were delighted to have a sponsor for this event in the name of BYMAC and Simon Byrne. We had an entry of approximately 84 players and a great standard of squash throughout the event.
Our thanks to Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club, Marian Birmingham and the Squash Council for running this event. Thanks once again to all referees and markers for their help during the event. The results are as follows:

SENIOR INTERPROVINCIAL 2005
The Senior Interprovincials was held in Fitzwilliam Lawn
Tennis Club, in Dublin this Season and Leinster competed with Mens A & B
teams and a Ladies A team. Leinster were missing some top players and this was
evident in the Ladies team. Emma Toolan, Claire O’Brien and Ciara Moloney were
all absent and they found it impossible to compete with the strong Ulster side.
The
Leinster B Team finished runners up to Ulster in a closely contested
match. Both Ronan Peyton and Roland
Budd gave outstanding performances for their provinces with Roland giving all
on Friday night and achieving a win that kept the hopes of winning the B title
alive. Unfortunately the hard games had
taken their toll by the time Leinster faced Ulster in the final deciding
matches and the Leinster B Team just fell short of a winning result.
Leinster A
achieved a victorious win over the highly anticipated Ulster. Derek Ryan showed what a world class player
he is, by playing through illness, unfortunately the win was not to be his and
he was beaten by Stevie Richardson. This left the match at 2-1 in the favour of
Leinster A, however Graeme Stewart had still to play Nigel Peyton and David
Ayerst had still to play Neal Murphy, and at this stage, it was the two Ulster
players who were fancied to win. Neal
Murphy, after being down in the third, fought back hard and won with an
impressive game of squash with a result of 3-1. This meant that Nigel Peyton did not have to face Graeme Stewart
and Leinster A took the championship 3-1.

in the 2nd Division for next year. This was a major disappointment
as they were hoping to regain their previous promotion into the Division 1

We have come to the end of another season of squash
and a very successful one it was for our Leinster juniors.
On the domestic, court scene the U/13 Girl’s
Competitions were dominated by the Jordan twins. We struggled at both U/15 and
U/17 Levels to get on the winners podium. Regrettably all the U/19 Girl’s
Competitions for the season were cancelled due to shortage of entrants. This
was particularly disappointing for Ciara Maloney and Niamh Brennan, Both from
Leinster, who would have been expected to dominate this sector.
On the Boy’s circuit, David Ryan won the Leinster
Junior Open, Irish National and the Leinster Junior Closed along with the East
of Ireland Title at U/11 Level. Sean Conroy was consistently in the latter
stages of all the U/13 Competitions. Eoin Dolan was similarly successful at
U/15 level. At the U/17 level both Colm Dolan and Michael Conroy were regularly
in the shake up. Unfortunately, the U/19 Boy’s struggled with numbers similar
to their girl counterparts. In the events that did take place Rory Byrne was
successful in keeping the Leinster flag flying.
On the international scene I would like to
congratulate Aoife and Bronagh Jordan and Sean Conroy on being selected for the
U/13 Home International Team that traveled to Scotland. Congratulations also to
Eoin Dolan who was selected for the U/15 Home Internationals and the Europeans
which take place later this month in Israel. At U/17 Level congratulations to
Colm Dolan, Roisin Brennan and Aisling Fitzpatrick on being selected for the
Europeans in Israel. The teams struggled at the Home Internationals but
hopefully the news from Tel Aviv later this month will be better. Best of luck
to all concerned.
The U/19 team traveled to Langan in Switzerland for
the Europeans and finished a creditable 10th. Congratulations to
Rory Byrne and Ciara Maloney on making the team and to Emma Toolan who traveled
as manager.
During the last year a number of our juniors traveled
to various tournaments abroad with varying degrees of success. I would like to
particularly congratulate Rory Byrne on winning the U/17 Scottish Open last New
Year. It really was a remarkable achievement when you see the list of previous
winners, which includes the likes of Peter Nicoll and Jonathan Power to mention
two. The support Rory received from a vocal Irish supporters club certainly
pushed him on in the final. Well done to Rory and his supporters.
On the administrative scene Irish Squash acquired a
new software system to assist in the running of competitions. Leinster were
used as guinea pigs to try out the system at the junior open in January. I
would like to personally thank Ger Holohan for his assistance in running the
software. It was a tremendous advantage having somebody with his ability and
knowledge of software to take over the reins and ensure the smooth operation of
the system.
I would like to conclude by wishing all those
traveling to Israel later this month every success in their matches.

JUNIOR INTERPROVINCIALS 2006:
QUEENS UNIVERSITY, BELFAST
31st March – 2nd April
After
all qualifying tournaments were completed Leinster Squash Selected the Junior
Interprovincial Teams based on the results throughout the season and compulsory
Events. Our Juniors travelled to Queens University, Belfast to compete in the
Interprovincials and we are delighted to announced their huge success this
year.
Many thanks to Ulster Junior Secretary, Suzie McCracken, Ruth Irwin (Ulster Squash) and tournament director, Tom O'Kane for their work in making the event such a success.

After
Ulster’s success in the 2005 Junior Interprovincials, which were hosted by
Leinster, we traveled north this year with some trepidation but lots of
expectation for the 2006 event. The teams had been selected based on the
results and performances throughout the season in qualifying competitions and
compulsory events. We were delighted to be able to field a team in each event
and unlike 2005 had opponents in each category.
Due to time
pressure on the part of the coaches there was no designated squad sessions this
year. The savings in this area were allocated to the overall budget for the
event with the result that we were able to provide team track suits for all
players. The Interprovincials are one of the highlights of the junior calendar
from both a playing and a social viewpoint and they create an opportunity for
individuals to become part of a team in an otherwise individual sport. It also
brings together participants who would otherwise only have been on the
peripheral of success at the sport. At Leinster Squash we felt the achievement
of making the teams should be rewarded with the prize of a provincial track
suit that could be worn as a mark of achievement in future events.
I would
like to congratulate all the players and managers on an extremely successful
week-end. Rory Byrne set the trend on Friday evening by winning an extremely
tight five setter against Conor O’Hare to give us the under 19 mixed title. By
the end of the week-end Leinster had won an unprecedented five of the seven
titles on offer. We have certainly set a high standard for the 2007 teams to
follow when they travel to Munster next year.

LEINSTER JUNIOR OPEN:
Westwood Leisure
Complex hosted the Leinster Junior Open on the 20th–22nd
January. This year we were proud to have a sponsor for the event in the name of
McQuillan Tools. We achieved an entry of 128 Juniors over all age groups. The
Boys U/11 section is still proving to be very popular with 15 entries, as is
the U/13 (25 boys & 11 girls) & U/15 (30 boys & 9 girls) Groups.
The standard of squash at this level is excellent and as good to watch as the
higher grades. Leinster Squash would like to thanks Mc Quillan Tools for their
valued support.
Irish Squash
recently purchased a new Tournament Planning Computer Programme and were keen
to use it for this event. The planner has huge advantages but it may take a
while to make it work for us. There were a few problems, which arose during
this competition but we are confident that we will learn from the mistakes.
All matches were completed and the Presentation of prizes was in Westwood at 4 p.m. on Sunday. The Results and Prizes awarded are as follows:

Thanks to Jackie McCreevey who was responsible for prize selection. Thanks to Westwood Squash Club for the fantastic venue and to Beatrice Byrne, Vice President of Leinster Squash, who presented the prizes.
IRISH JUNIOR NATIONALS:
Leinster Squash had the privilege of host the Irish Junior National this year. The event was divided between Esb Sports Co ( U/11 and U/13 Boys & Girls ) and Mt Pleasant Squash Club ( U/15, U/17 and U/19 Boys & Girls). Both venues are excellent. Ger Holohan agreed to run the ESB Sports Co venue and many thanks to himself and Tony Maher who kept the ball rolling. The numbers were not as good as the Leinster Open and it was agreed that these two important tournaments were held too close together. It is a huge commitment to give up a whole weekend to a competition and with only two weeks between some players opted out of the Nationals.

LEINSTER JUNIOR CLOSED:
The Leinster Junior Closed was held in ALSAA Squash Club and Sutton LTC this year on the 3rd – 5th March. We chose to use two venues as the number of juniors playing these events is growing and we wanted to be ready in advance. Congratulations to all participants and thanks to them for a wonderful and entertaining weekend. Leinster Squash would like to thank Ger Holohan and the committee in Sutton LTC for making this competition run so smoothly and thanks to the two clubs who provided fantastic venues. Thanks also to the Sutton senior players who refereed all weekend taking the pressure off the juniors. It worked very well. Congratulations to all junior who were selected to represent Leinster in the Interprovincials in Belfast. Thanks also to Beatrice Byrne, Vice President of Leinster Squash, who travelled from Carlow to present the prizes.
ONE DAY TOURNAMENTS
The “One Day Tournaments” are Squash Competitions held for the juniors and are taken into consideration for ranking lists. The Events are usually individual age categories e.g. U/11 Boys & Girls on one day, U/13 Boys & Girls on another day etc. It is encouraged that all Clubs with Juniors hold these One Day Tournaments at regular intervals to give the juniors a chance to compete throughout the season. Once again, Sutton LTC held U/9, U/11, U/13, U/15 & U/17 events on both sides of Christmas. Eoin Ryan ran all sections and was delighted to have full draws. Aer Lingus and Westwood held a number of One Days also. Thanks to all involved for making these days so enjoyable.
It is important that we get all Clubs to hold these tournaments and they should become a normal part of the calendar for each season. We find that they are very successful as Juniors and Parents have only to commit themselves to one day as opposed to full weekend tournaments. They are also a great preparation for the bigger events.

Another successful year was enjoyed by Leinster Schools Squash in the promotion and development of squash in schools in 2005/06. It gives me great pleasure to report that the schools programme has gone well and that young talent is being coached and nurtured at the various age groups.
We ran four competitions again this year for both boys and girls in the age groups of U/13,U/15, U/17 & U/19. The league was run from November to mid-December, the Shield Competition in January to mid-February and the Cup/Plate Competition from February to mid- March.
All Leinster Schools were circularized in early September regarding entries for this years’ competitions. Fifteen schools entered the competitions and 53 teams participated in all (41 boys teams and 12 girls teams). The boy’s schools were Belvedere College, Blackrock College, CBS Carlow, Donahies CC, Gael Colaiste Cheatharlach, Gonzaga, Knockbeg, St Conleths, St Fintans, St Marys and St Michaels. The girl’s schools comprised of Caritas, Gael Colaiste Cheatharlach, Santa Sabina, Scoil Mhuire Gan Small and St Leos.
The League Competition started in early November and four teams were placed in each division. Games were played on a home and away basis and therefore each team had six matches. Games were played in accordance to the American Scoring System. Practically all games were played and the league was completed before Christmas. The winners and runners-up in each division received prizes.
The Shield Competition took place in January and some new teams were entered. The top two teams in the League were taken out of this competition and played for the League Cup. Then the top two teams in each division were promoted. This ensured that there would be new winners of these divisions. Scoring in this competition was based on the Cumulative Scoring System i.e. every point counts. This creates quite a lot of excitement and enthusiasm among the players. It also ensured the keeping of accurate scores.
The Cup Competition took place from mid-February on a knock-out basis. Teams knocked out in the first round went into the plate competition, so every team had at least two games. The Cup finals took place in Fitzwilliam LTC on Wednesday 15th March. This was a great occasion for Schools Squash.
Prizes for all the competitions played throughout the year were made on this occasion. The guest of honour was the President of the Leinster Squash, Mr Gerry Callanan. Sixty trophies were presented in all and 324 individual prizes. The Schools Committee would like to thank Gerry for his continued support and interest in Schools Squash and Fitzwilliam LTC for allowing us the use of their excellent facilities, once again. The winners of the various age groups in the Leinster Finals have qualified to represent Leinster in the All Ireland Schools Squash Finals, which take place 29th April in Sligo.
The Leinster Schools Squash Committee would like to thank Leinster Squash for helping and supporting schools squash. I would particularly like to thank Mr Simon Byrne, of BYMAC for sponsoring Leinster Schools Squash this year. Special thanks is due to Mr Gerry Callanan, the President of Leinster Squash, for his continued support and interest in the promotion of Schools Squash. Mr Eoin Ryan deserves special thanks for his coaching of so many school players in Sutton, Fitzwilliam and Blackrock College. Mr Dermot O’Brien continues to do trojan work in promoting squash in the Carlow area. Dermot also ran a schools competition in Carlow for the promotion of squash in the local schools.
There are areas of concern for the schools programme in that apart from Blackrock and the Carlow Schools the game is struggling to survive in all others. This must be addressed by the provision of coaching in schools by Leinster Squash. The decline in the number of girls teams is a serious concern.
Clubs have been generous in giving their facilities to the schools for their competitions and they are to be commended for this. We would continue to urge them to offer concessionary rates to Junior members and to enrol the players from their catchment area. Clubs should seriously consider providing coaches for squash in the schools nearby, and thus ensure junior members and their own survival.
In general it was another satisfactory year of squash for schools and the standard remains high. A great effort was put in by a lot of people, and the teachers and coaches are to be commended for their efforts in encouraging their schools to participate. But a lot more needs to be done to continue to promote squash in schools and to get more schools involved, particularly girls schools.
On a personal note, I am retiring from the position of Schools Secretary this year on health grounds. I would like to thank Leinster Squash for their support over the last ten years and all the schools and teachers who have supported me in my work. I wish Schools Squash every success in future years.
Fr. Joseph A. Gough CSSp / Schools secretary.
We are
also losing another precious player in our team. Fr Joe Gough, who has run the
schools squash forever, is handing over this position. Fr Gough has put so much
hard work into providing school juniors with encouragement and pride to
represent their schools in organised Schools leagues. He will however be
available to advise our new Schools Administrator and we thank him for that and
for all the work and dedication he has put into this important section of
squash.
Leinster Squash Council
understand the importance of developing Squash at schools level and we thank Fr
Joe Gough and his committee, most sincerely, for their commitment and hard work
in the running of all the School Competitions.

OPEN CLUB TOURNAMENTS HELD IN LEINSTER
The Club Open Tournaments are a crucial aspect of Squash and we would like to thank the organisers and players of The Mt Pleasant Open, The Old Belvedere Handicap Open and The Aer Lingus Open. We would also like to thank Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club and their Squash Committee who brought some of the best Squash players to our shores to play in the IRISH OPEN.
Held in Fitzwilliam each year, we are given a chance to
witness some of the finest players compete for the Irish Open Title. This
competition is a “Knock-out” Event for the top 16 Entries. Ireland’s Mens No:1,

wonderful squash. The event was free for all to attend and the level of squash
improved with every day. Both finals were nailbiting with Ireland’s Madeline
Perry taking the Womens Trophy and Borja Golan of Spain taking the Mens event.

GOLF
The Golf Classic is held annually and is organised by Gerry
Delaney and Brian Williams. Beech Park Golf Club was the Venue for last years
event. The Classic, this season, is to take place on Friday 12th
May, in Naas Golf Club and we wish you another great day out.
CONCLUSION
It has been a very fast year and hard to believe it is over. The second half of the season was extremely busy with Tournaments happening back to back and leading into the end of Leagues and Cup Competition. Leinster had plenty of success with the senior and junior Interprovincials, Intercounties and many Leinster Players claiming prizes in Opens Events throughout Ireland. We were delighted to see many Junior names appearing on the League Ranking lists and even a success story with Mens Div 6 being won by a predominantly junior team from Sutton LTC.
I personally would like to thank Gerry Callanan who put a huge amount of time and energy into his task as Leinster President for the past two years. He will, however be staying with us in another capacity as we are not ready to let him go yet. We welcome our new president on board and will endeavour to assist him to adjust to his new position and agenda. Having said that, the council as a whole are continuously striving to keep Leinster Squash moving forward and with their tireless efforts we can be sure of many more successful seasons.
We are also losing another precious player in our team. Fr Joe Gough, who has run the schools squash forever, is handing over this position. Fr Gough has put so much hard work into providing school juniors with encouragement and pride to represent their schools in organised Schools leagues. He will however be available to advise our new Schools Administrator and we thank him for that and for all the work and dedication he has put into this important section of squash.
With this Season at an end, I would like to thank everyone for their patience and although many of you are very busy in your work life you are always willing to take a call from me whether it is at the top of your agenda or not.
Thank you
